QLS’s Second “Christmas Tea with Lucinda Dickens Hawksley”
QLS’s unique literary online event, featuring acclaimed author and descendant of Charles Dickens, Lucinda Dickens Hawksley, returned last Christmas for yet another festive afternoon tea.
Students of all ages from 42 schools, members of the QLS Pan-Hellenic Network of foreign language schools, attended the unforgettable event under the title “Christmas Tea With Lucinda Dickens Hawksley 2”. On Sunday 12th December, the students had the opportunity to interact with the acclaimed British author, broadcaster and great-great-great-granddaughter of Dickens who delivered 3 tailor-made presentations adapted to different linguistic levels.
Ms Dickens Hawksley, live from London, revealed to intermediate and advanced level students the real events which inspired the classic book “Oliver Twist”. Junior and beginner level students had the opportunity to find out about Victorian Christmas traditions and the life of Charles Dickens. The students enjoyed the immersive event from the comfort of their homes while sipping their favourite hot drinks by their Christmas trees. Each presentation wrapped up with a lively Q & A session followed by festive raffles with prizes courtesy of QLS, Express Publishing, Burlington Books and MM Publications.
The “Christmas Tea” initiative, organised by the QLS Book Club, won an award in the category of Best Online School Event at the 2021 Education Leaders Awards.
